Addiction treatment,
40 minutes from Austin.

Austin has more treatment options than ever: detox clinics, outpatient groups, hospital programs, sober living, residential centers. This page sorts out how they fit together, and where a long-term residential program for men belongs.

Close enough for families to stay involved: admissions visits, family weekends, and the handoff from a local detox all stay simple.

Far enough to give men room away from the people, places, and routines tied to their using.

01 · The landscape

The levels of care, in plain terms.

Most people move through addiction treatment in stages rather than all at once. The right choice depends on how severe the addiction is, whether earlier attempts have held, and how stable home life is.

  1. Step 1

    Medical detox

When the body is physically dependent, detox comes first: short, medically supervised, in a hospital or licensed detox facility. Ranch House Recovery is not a detox and not a hospital. Detox and any acute medical care happen first, somewhere else.

  2. Step 2

    Outpatient programs

Live at home, attend sessions during the week. Works when home life is stable and the addiction has not run deep.

  3. Step 3

    Residential programs

Housing, structure, and daily support in one place. For men who need distance from the environment that fed the problem.

  4. Where we fit

    Long-term residential, for men

Months, not weeks. For men who have been through short programs before, or whose addiction has been running for years. This is Ranch House Recovery.

Our guide to addiction treatment in Austin lays out these options in more detail.

02 · The honest part

Why some men need more than a short program.

A thirty-day stay is enough for some people. For many men, it is not. If someone has been through detox before, finished a short program, and relapsed within weeks, the problem is rarely willpower. It is usually that not enough time passed to build new habits, repair relationships, and create a life worth staying sober for.

Longer programs give that time. Real change in how a person thinks, works, and relates to other people takes months, not days.

03 · Where we fit

A working ranch, not a clinic.

Ranch House Recovery is a long-term residential program for men in Elgin, Texas, about forty minutes east of Austin. Men live, work, and recover together, with licensed clinical care, twelve-step work, and the daily rhythm of ranch life woven through the week.

Being just outside the city matters more than it sounds. Space, quiet, and physical work do something a downtown office cannot. At the same time, Austin is close enough that admissions, family visits, and the handoff from a local detox all stay simple. Read how we think about recovery on our philosophy page.

04 · Choosing well

Cut through the advertising.

The treatment market is crowded, and a lot of what shows up online is advertising rather than guidance. A few honest questions cut through most of it.

A program that answers those questions directly is usually worth a phone call. If you are not sure what level of care you need, that is normal. Most families are not sure at first. Our admissions team can help you sort out where a man is right now and what the sensible next step looks like, even if that step is somewhere other than here.

Common questions

Is Ranch House Recovery in Austin?

We are in Elgin, Texas, about forty minutes east of downtown Austin. We serve men from Austin and across Central Texas, and the drive is short enough to keep families involved throughout the program.

Do you provide detox?

No. We are a long-term residential program, not a detox or a hospital. Medical detox happens first, at a hospital or licensed detox facility. Once a man is medically stable, he can move into our program for the longer work of recovery.

Not sure which level of care fits?
